Fred Casella is the producer and director of Jessica the Hippo.

After a degree in zoology from Oxford University, Fred found himself — almost by accident — working on science documentaries.

Without the benefit of film school, Fred learned his craft from those around him. He went on to direct and produce episodes for Junkyard Wars, Faking It (both for TLC) and ABC's Wife Swap.

Over the years, Fred has explored diverse subjects from ventriloquism to bankruptcy and has filmed with all sorts of people: from psychotherapists to shipwreck archaeologists.

These days, Fred is drawn to subjects that are both unexpected and compelling and likes to make films that force the audience to think as well as feel.
