Pilot Whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus [short finned], Globicephala melas [long finned])

Pilot whales are second only in size to killer whales, but both belong to the dolphin family. There are two different types of pilot whales — short- and long-finned. Pilot whales are found all over the world, from the cold northern Atlantic Ocean to the temperate and tropical waters of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans. Pilot whales are currently being killed in the Faroe Islands, which is located halfway between Iceland and Norway.
