About the San Francisco Animal Care and ControlAnimal Care and Control (ACC) is responsible for San Francisco's stray, injured, abandoned, neglected and mistreated animals, as well as for the enforcement of all state and local animal control and welfare laws. The department and the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals share a common purpose in saving animals' lives, preventing animal suffering and eliminating animal abandonment.
The ACC provides shelter services for the surrender of animals, the collection of strays, as well as adoption and the search for lost pets. It's uniformed and trained deputy animal control officers patrol the city on a regular basis, respond to animal-related emergencies, investigate cases of animal abuse and provide 24-hour service in picking up seriously injured or sick strays for veterinarian care.
