moose COUGAR AND MOOSE
In January 2007, Jim and Nell Hamm were hiking a familiar trail in Northern California's Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, when out of nowhere a 70-pound cougar pounced on Jim, viciously mauling him. This was the most harrowing moment in their 50-year marriage and Jim barely survived. He credits Nell's heroics in battling the cougar with saving his life.

In June 2003, 11 year-old Hannah Strobbe and a friend took a shortcut through the woods behind her Anchorage, Alaska home when suddenly Hannah was charged, and repeatedly trampled, by a 900-pound moose. In three years, Hannah's painful injuries have faded, and now she realizes it's time to conquer her fears and she's strong enough to do just that.

bison WOLF AND BISON
On Labor Day weekend 2006, Brenda Wright and her family were enjoying a picnic on the northern shores of Lake Superior when a lone wolf unexpectedly, and viciously, attacked them. Brenda and her two children survived the attack but they required more than 60 stitches between them. There are some scars you can't see, and while they've come a long way since the attack, they still need to heal their emotional wounds.

In the summer of 2002, Paul Jocelyn was vacationing with his family in Yellowstone National Park and he wanted the perfect photo of a bison. But as he approached the bison, the animal turned, charged and wildly tossed him through the air. Though his physical injuries have healed completely, Paul's sense of having caused the incident himself has been harder to get over.

kangaroo SEA LION AND KANGAROO
In April 2007, 14-year old Ella Murphy is riding her surfboard behind a speedboat just offshore of Lancelin in Western Australia. Out of nowhere a 600-pound sea lion flies out of the water, grabs her by the neck and knocks her off the board. This harrowing attack lasts mere moments but she's seriously injured as the bites narrowly miss severing an artery. Only fast action by the driver of the boat, and some very good luck, save her life.

It's late October 1998 and 13-year old Steven Shorten is looking for a wayward golf shot in Grafton, Australia. Suddenly a 6-foot kangaroo jumps out of the grass and ferociously scratches and punches him. The brutal attack leaves him severely injured and his grueling physical and emotional recovery lasts for months. All these years later and his healing journey is only now coming to an end.

wedge-tailed eagle WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE AND SALTWATER CROCODILE
In February 2007, Paragliding Pilot Nicky Moss competes at the World Championships in Killarney, Australia. She's flying at more than 15,000 feet above the ground when out of the blue a pair of wedge-tailed eagles fiercely attack her. These massive birds repeatedly strike her canopy leaving gaping holes in the material. Nicky is forced to descend rapidly as she works desperately to keep her canopy intact and land safely.

In January 2007, Police Sergeant Jeff Tanswell is snorkeling on a coral reef in Northern Australia when he's nearly drowned as a 9-foot saltwater crocodile viciously attacks and repeatedly bites him. Only the immediate response by his wife, Jane, also a Police Constable, saves him from certain death. The emotional aftermath of this brutal incident is something both are still trying to overcome.
