There are plenty of facts about the hippo that make them unique: they weigh up to 4,000 pounds (despite a mostly vegetarian diet), they're hairless, and they favor using mud as a natural sunscreen for their sensitive skin. What earns this sub-Saharan Africa dweller a spot on the gross out list, though, is their affinity for emerging from their mud baths to fling a mixture of their own urine and feces at each other. With a swirl of their tail, hippos will launch the world's most disgusting spitball as an act of humiliation as well as to mark their territory. The behavior may seem both disgusting and juvenile, but not as far as their baboon neighbors are concerned, who just love helping themselves to the leftovers. Sounds like the entire bunch could use some face time with Miss Manners!
