Top 5 Reasons to Choose a Small Dog Over a Big One

By Sarah Grace McCandless

Small Dog? Big Dog?

Being small has its advantages.

Have dog, will travel: That's just one of the many things New York-based author Karyn Bosnak lists as a benefit of being an owner of a small pooch — in her case, a 7-year-old Yorkshire terrier named Beverly. "She comes along with me when I run errands," Bosnak says. Beverly can even join her owner on plane and train trips.

Think about it… if your dog is part of your family, shouldn't he be able to join you on family adventures? Of course, that's not to suggest all dog owners should start trying to smuggle their pups along everywhere they go. But if you're considering becoming a pet parent, thinking "small" might actually come with some rather large advantages. Here are just a few great reasons to opt for a diminutive dog over a larger breed.
