Scientific name: Tanichthys albonubes
A perfect beginner's fish, the White Cloud Mountain Minnow grows to a length of 1.5 inches and is peaceful and undemanding. It should be kept in a group and looks best in a tank with dark gravel and background. This species prefers somewhat cooler temperatures -- 65º to 75º Fahrenheit -- and a pH of 6.0 to 8.0 with soft to relatively hard water. It will do well on flake and freeze-dried foods.
The White Cloud Mountain Minnow comes from China, where it inhabits mountain streams. The Meteor Minnow, a very attractive long-finned variety of this hardy species, is sometimes available. Females are just a bit fuller or plumper than the males.
