Scientific name: Barbus tetrazona
An active, schooling species, the Tiger Barb grows to two inches and needs a spacious tank for swimming. The Tiger Barb has a reputation as a fin-nipper and should not be kept with slow-moving fish with long finnage such as gouramis. It is less likely to harass other fish when it is kept in a group; it may feel more secure that way, or it may simply be focusing its attention on the other members of the school.
The Tiger Barb does well in a water temperature of 72º to 82º Fahrenheit and a pH of 6.5 to 7.8 with moderately soft to relatively hard water. This fish will take all flake and freeze-dried foods.
