Scientific name: Phenacogrammus interruptus
Unlike all the other tetras in this section, which are from South America, the Congo Tetra is from Africa. It grows to 3.5 inches and should be kept in a shoal in a spacious aquarium. The Congo Tetra is a jumper and requires a tightly covered tank. Aquascaping should provide shelter from bright tank lights.
Exceptionally good water quality is important. A water temperature between 74º and 82º Fahrenheit, a pH of 6.0 to 6.5, and moderately soft to slightly hard water are recommended. Although flake and dried foods are a good basic diet, live brine shrimp should be a regular addition.
