Clutching a Fake Gift
The images show pairs of R. sulcata, the dance fly species observed in the study, copulating on the vegetation. In the first image (A), the female is feeding on a prey item gift provided by the male. In the second image (B), the female is holding a large token (cotton ball) which was switched with the pair's original nuptial gift.
