Raising money (and awareness) for your favorite animal organization can be fun! Here are some ideas that you can do with your school, family, community or office!
1. Start an Animal Movie Club. Invite your friends and family to join an animal movie club with monthly meetings. Ask people to volunteer to host the club and ask each member to contribute $10 per meeting - to be donated to the animal charity of the group's choice. The host provides light snacks and drinks and chooses the animal movie. After each movie - the host encourages the group to discuss how animals were portrayed in the movie.
9: Have a Bake Sale
This idea is great for parents and children to do together! Get permission from your teacher or principal to have an animal-inspired bake sale. Ask the kids in your class to make animal themed food and have a bake sale after school. Ask your teacher to help you give out flyers and make signs advertising the bake sale around the school. The money can go to the animal organization of your choice!
8: Have an Art Show
Ask your community to donate their own artistic creations (paintings, sculptures, pottery, and jewelry). Display the artwork at a local restaurant, bowling alley or café. Invite the community to come to the art show to purchase the art and then donate the money to the animal charity of your choice. You can invite someone from the charity to come to the event and speak about the importance of their animal issues.
7: Organize a Dance or Concert
Using your local community center or auditorium, ask musicians or DJs in your community to donate their time and perform for your animal fundraiser. Advertise in the local paper and around town and in schools. Charge $5-$10 at the door and donate the money to your favorite animal organization!
6: Organize a Lecture
Ask your local animal organizations for suggestions on speakers. Find animal authors, adventures, and even zoo keepers to speak about animals at your local community center. Charge $10 for tickets and donate the money to the animal organization of your choice. Don't forget to cash in on the refreshments before the lecture starts. If it is a success - plan one every few months.
5: Have a Community Garage Sale
Encourage people to clean out their closets for a good cause! Have a garage sale and donate all the proceeds to your favorite animal organization. Invite your local animal shelter to come by with pets in need of a home! You never know - maybe someone will find their new best friend at your garage sale!
4: Ask for Birthday Donations
Instead of getting birthday presents - tell your friends and family that you would rather see them donate money to your favorite animal organization. Symbolically adopt a panda, tiger, sea turtle, gorilla or any of over 40 animals in WWF's Online Adoption Center.
3: Have a Silent Auction
Ask your friends, teachers and neighbors - as well as local shops and restaurants to donate something for a silent auction. People can donate services as well - like baby sitting, pet walking. Use your local community center to display the items and let people browse and bid. Donate the money to the animal charity of your choice.
2: Have a Dog & Car Wash
Ask a local shelter, grocery store or gas station if you can use their parking lot to set up a Dog & Car Wash. Create two stations - one to wash cars and one to wash dogs. Charge $10 per car and dog and donate the money to your favorite animal organization!
1: Organize a Pet Happy Hour
Ask a local restaurant with an outdoor area if you can host a pet-friendly happy hour. Hopefully they will donate the drinks and light snacks - but if not - try to get a good price on an open bar. Charge people at the door $20 (or more - depending on what you are paying the restaurant) and let the pet/human socializing begin!
