Red Tailed Hawk
Buteo jamaicensis

Bird Spotting: This most common and widespread hawk is mostly brown with a white chest. A dark band makes slashes across the belly. The tail is wide and distinctively rust colored.

Nesting: The red-tailed hawk produces two or three brown-spotted, white eggs each season. Their nests of sticks are lined with bark and vegetation, and can usually be found in tall trees or rock outcroppings.

Bird Bite: Even if you’ve never seen a red-tailed hawk you’ve probably heard one. The raspy cry of the red-tail is frequently used whenever a hawk (or even an eagle) makes an appearance on the silver screen.
