It is important to know the difference between vomiting and regurgitation because they are symptoms of different diseases. Vomiting is the forceful ejection of the stomach contents up the esophagus and through the mouth. Regurgitation is the backflow of undigested food (which has never reached the stomach) up the esophagus and through the mouth.

Vomiting is a symptom of stomach, intestinal, kidney, liver and other diseases. Regurgitation is a symptom of megaesophagus or other esophageal disease. It is also a normal process in which wolves and other wild animals bring food back and deliver it to the young.
