The Sergeant Major Damselfish is primarily white with approximately five horizontal stripes and a patch of yellow near the dorsal fin. As the fish matures, it tends to lose color.
It can become aggressive towards other, weaker fish and needs a 50 gallon or larger aquarium with numerous hiding places. It is a very resilient fish.
The diet should include a variety of meaty foods, herbivore preparations, and flaked foods.
Like other damselfish, they are generally compatible with: Dwarf Angelfish, Large Angelfish, Anthias, Basslets, Blennies, Boxfish, Clownfish, Goatfish, Gobies, Hawkfish, Hogfish, Parrotfish, Pseudochromis, Puffers, Tangs & Surgeons and Wrasse.
They are not compatible with: Eels, Groupers, Lionfish & Scorpionfish, Seahorses & Pipefish and Sharks & Rays.
