Goose Scorpionfish
Veterinary & Aquatic Services Department, Drs. Foster & Smith, Inc.

The Goose Scorpionfish, also known as Weedy Scorpionfish or Goose Rhinopias Weedy Scorpion, has a yellow to orange body with large spots and blotches, and feathery appendages. It resembles pieces of seaweed or lacey sea fan. In an aquarium, it will often rock back and forth resembling a leaf in the water. It is an unusual and exotic fish, not one for beginners.

This scorpionfish requires an 70 gallon or larger tank. It is not overly aggressive, but may eat smaller fish or invertebrates. Like other members of this family it will often shed its protective slime coating to rid its body of unwanted detritus, and to protect it against infections.

It is extremely difficult to breed in an aquarium, and has no distinguishing characteristics to help differentiate males from females.

The diet of the Goose Scorpionfish can include small fish and shrimp, and it will readily feed on ghost shrimp or feeder guppies.
