Filamented Flasher Wrasse
Veterinary & Aquatic Services Department, Drs. Foster & Smith, Inc.

The Filamented Flasher Wrasse is also known as the Filament-fin Wrasse, or Filamentous Wrasse. It is orange with magenta to blue vertical stripes. Blues and yellows are also found accenting the fins. The dorsal rays of the males are very elongated.

It requires a 20 gallon or larger aquarium with a tight-fitting lid to prevent escape since it is a jumper. A grouping is acceptable and often recommended, since the females will encourage the male to perform colorful displays. The females should be introduced into the tank first.

In the wild, it is a plankton feeder; in the aquarium, its diet should consist of finely chopped meats and live shrimp (brine, mysid).

Like other wrasse, they are generally compatible with: Large Angelfish, Boxfish, Damselfish and Tangs & Surgeons.
