Blackfin Hogfish
Veterinary & Aquatic Services Department, Drs. Foster & Smith, Inc.

The dorsal portion of the Blackfin Hogfish is orangish-pink, and the ventral body is light yellow. A black irregular spot is present from the dorsal fin to the ventral tail. The black area will become smaller as the fish ages.

With maturity, the Blackfin Hogfish will need to be in a 150 gallon or larger fish-only tank since it is very territorial. It is aggressive towards smaller, docile fish that are easily bullied.

The mature adult will eat snails, worms, mussels, small fish, shrimp, and squid.

This fish is not recommended for the average home aquarium because of its size and aggressive personality.

Like other hogfish, they are generally compatible with: Dwarf Angelfish, Large Angelfish, Anglers & Frogfish, Anthias, Boxfish, Butterflyfish, Clownfish, Damselfish, Filefish, Goatfish, Hawkfish, Parrotfish, Puffers, Squirrelfish and Tangs & Surgeons.
