Yo Yo Loach
Veterinary & Aquatic Services Department, Drs. Foster & Smith, Inc.

Botia lohachata is known as the Pakistani Loach and is often called the Yo Yo Loach. It is a scaleless fish which is silvery gold with black irregular striping and has four pairs of barbels protruding from the mouth area. It is a bottom-dweller that originates from the streams in India.

The Yo Yo Loach is an active scavenger and may be kept in an aquarium with other semi-aggressive fish. The aquarium should have a fine gravel bottom and provide caves, holes, and other places to hide. Because it originates from streams, it does well in aquariums with a water current.

The breeding habits of this species are not known, and successful aquarium breeding has yet to be recorded.

Botia lohachata requires small amounts of food several times a day. Younger Botia Loaches will eat most prepared foods, while older ones may be more finicky.

Ideal tank mates include: Mollies, Swordtails, Barbs, Danios, Rainbowfish, Gouramis, Loaches, Cichlids of similar size, Plecos and Scavenger Catfish.
