The Pseudomugil Rainbowfish is a schooling fish, with the male being larger than the female and having a longer, first dorsal fin. Rainbowfish are known for their characteristic large eyes, black or silver band that runs through the middle scale rows, deeply forked mouth, and two dorsal fins.

This moderately aggressive fish is best housed in a planted aquarium with plenty of space to swim. The Pseudomugil Rainbowfish should have a gravel substrate; and the colors of the fish may intensify if a darker colored gravel is used.

The Pseudomugil sp. spawns on fine-leaved plants or over moss. The fry will hatch two to three weeks after spawning, and should be fed fresh live foods such as brine shrimp. Morning sunlight directed into the aquarium may trigger spawning.

Although the Pseudomugil Rainbowfish has a large mouth, its throat tends to be narrow. The Pseudomugil Rainbowfish is an omnivore, but prefers fresh live foods.

Ideal tank mates include: Guppies, Platies, Mollies, Swordtails, Tetras, Smaller Danios, Rasboras, Loaches, Plecos and Scavenger Catfish of similar size.
