Description: The loggerhead sea turtle is so named for its large head. It also has powerful jaws used for crushing hard-bodied prey, such as crabs and lobsters. They have a heart-shaped shell and may grow to about 3.3 feet (1 meter) in length. The loggerhead sea turtle is found in temperate and tropical seas worldwide, and is the most abundant sea turtle in coastal waters of the United States. The main threat to loggerheads is incidental capture in fishing gear.
