LEAF-NOSED LIZARD (Ceratophora tennentii )

Description: The leaf-nosed lizard is endemic to Sri Lanka. It has a long, pointed snout with a horn at the tip, which is flattened and leaf-shaped. This species has the ability to change its appearance to match its surroundings, a means of camouflage that reduces its risk of predation. The leaf-nosed lizard has a very restricted range within the Knuckles Forest Range of Sri Lanka, which is being rapidly lost to logging and other interests.

Major Threat: Habitat loss due to forest clearing, logging and man-made fires
Habitat: Montane tropical wet evergreen vegetation
Location: Knuckles Forest Range in Sri Lanka
Diet: Insects and other small arthropods
