ANTIGUAN RACER (Alsophis antiguae)

Description: The Antiguan racer is an extremely rare species of snake that lives on Antigua, a Caribbean island. They are increasingly under threat by non-native invasive predators such as rats, mongooses and dogs. Despite being nonvenomous and relatively docile compared to many snakes, the Antiguan racer is often the victim of persecution by humans. It is considered one of the world's most rare and endangered snakes.

Major Threats: Habitat loss; predation by rats, dogs and mongooses; human persecution
Habitat: Coastal forest
Location: Two or three offshore islands of Antigua in the Caribbean
Diet: Small ground lizards
