Description: Weighing up to 2,500 pounds, the Steller sea lion is the world's largest sea lion. Despite its massive size, it is an agile swimmer and expert diver. It is recognized by its huge head, wide muzzle and thick neck. It breeds in large colonies in which the male may be three times the weight of the female. The Steller sea lion is found along the North Pacific Rim and is threatened by habitat loss, hunting and persecution.
