WHITE-WINGED DUCK (Cairina scutulata)

Description: The white-winged duck can be found among the wetlands of Southeast Asia. It is a dark, secretive bird with a white speckled head and blue- and white-tipped wing feathers. The range of the white-winged duck once spanned from the island of Java to the eastern edge of India. In recent decades, much of its original habitat has been destroyed and fragmented. The white-winged duck's habitat continues to be lost to deforestation, wetland drainage and hunting.
