Description: The Philippine eagle is the world's largest eagle and one of the most endangered birds of prey. It has mostly brown upperparts, a buff belly and a shaggy crest of feathers surrounding its head. It is threatened by hunting and loss of forest habitat. There are fewer than 250 individuals remaining and it is likely that this bird will soon be extinct.

IUCN Status: Critically Endangered
USFWS Status: Endangered
Major Threats: Hunting and loss of forest habitat
Habitat: Mainly primary dipterocarp rain forest; also second growth and gallery forest
Location: Luzon, Samar, Leyte and Mindanao islands
Diet: Monkeys and other mammals; large snakes; monitor lizards and large birds
