Once at your new home, your cat will have to investigate everything in the same way a newly adopted cat does in its first days, and confining him to a small area at first may be helpful. However, rediscovering familiar household items can ease the transition, as will getting back into your cat-care routine as quickly as possible. It may take several weeks before an outdoor cat knows his new territory enough to be trusted to return home; this can be a period of opportunity to convert him to being exclusively an indoor cat.
