MULE DEER

Female mule deer give birth to one or two fawns in late spring. The newborn fawns are golden brown with mottled spots that act as camouflage. Until they are old enough to keep up with the herd, the mother deer keeps them out of site in tall grasses or other vegetation, where their mothers visit them to nurse and groom.
