Blackfish
Blackfish, any of several unrelated fish. The Alaska blackfish, found in Arctic and sub-Arctic fresh waters, grows to 7 inches (18 cm) in length. It was once an important part of the diet of Eskimos and their dogs. The Sacramento blackfish is an edible fish found in lakes and streams of California; it reaches a length of 18 inches (46 cm). The tripletail and the tauiog, two saltwater fish, are commonly called blackfish.
The Alaska blackfish is Dallia pectoralis; the Sacramento blackfish, Orthodon microlepidotus; the tripletail, Lobotes surinamensis; and the tautog, Tautoga onitis.
