Do you have what it takes to succeed in a baboon troop? As a baboon, knowing how to interact with your fellow troop mates is essential. If you make the wrong moves, you may lower your chances for survival. But if you play your cards right, you could enjoy great success, or at the very least make life easier for yourself. Baboon society may seem bewildering at first, but keep practicing, and let your primate intuition be your guide.
When you're ready, choose the baboon you'd like to be. |

SITMAILE, a male You were born to Kijuujuu, a female of medium rank in the Madzini troop, which roams far to the north of the Viramba troop. Kijuujuu tended to keep you to herself when you were a newborn, only letting the dominant troop members hold you. One male in particular, Jamili, has always been very fond of you and equally attentive to your mother. It's possible that this confident, but only slightly larger than average, baboon is your father. You're a year old now, so it's time to begin sorting out the details of communal life. Take Sitmaile's quiz. |

HESHIMA, a female You were born to the lowest-ranking baboon in the Viramba troop, Ghaidhi. As an infant you were very popular with the rest of the baboons. Ghaidhi allowed the others to cradle and dote on you as often as they liked, while she basked in the attention that comes with motherhood. You spent many a long, hot day clinging to your mother's belly as the troop walked for miles in search of food. Now that the dry season is over, you're ready to fall in step with troop life. Take Heshima's quiz! These quizzes are based in part on Sex and Friendship in Baboons by Barbara B. Smuts, Primate Societies by Barbara B. Smuts, et al, and Holly Carroll's field observations. |
