White Stork

Hundreds of tall, glowing shapes line the banks of a dark pond. Their slow, graceful movements and sheer numbers identify them as white storks. Some mingle quietly; others dip their long, pointed beaks into the water; but most stand in silence, waiting for the night to end. In the grasses nearby, a caracal stalks. Keeping low to the ground, it slinks behind rolling hillocks, moving closer to the unwitting birds. A white stork lifts its wing to preen, oblivious to the prowling cat. A cloud passes over the moon, and the caracal leaves the tall grass to creep slowly across the bank. It crouches, ready to spring the attack, but the small cloud unveils the moonlight, exposing the predator. The frightened storks rise en masse, fluttering noisily into nearby trees, and the caracal turns its attention elsewhere.
