Leopard

On the corpse of a fallen evergreen lies the curved outline of a cat. Its massive head rests on a bed of lichens, and its long, spotted tail casts loosely toward the forest floor. In between, a muscular forearm embraces the descending trunk, and a concise leg folds crookedly against the cat's frame. A leopard, exhausted from the night's hunt, sleeps on the edge of a riverine forest. Unseen birds call to each other among the trees, while a nearby stream babbles quietly, but the big cat slumbers on. Except for the almost imperceptible rise and fall of its chest, the leopard is as motionless as the half-eaten zebra foal suspended in the branches above it.
