Serval

An acacia tree rises to stretch its branches in the starlight, leaves rustling in the breeze. Its trunk appears to be waving an extra limb. The curiosity darts away and is replaced by high, crescent-shaped ears and the delicate face of a serval. The spotted cat traces its way around the trunk, investigating the bark, its bushy tail lagging behind. It doubles back to re-examine a scent, then, turning its rump to the tree, lifts its tail and sprays. Nearby, a shrill cry breaks through the insect choir. A long-legged creature looms out of the darkness: another serval. It's a border dispute. The intruder flashes its ears, growling. The cat by the tree arches its back, then shrinks away, ears flattened. Turning, it flees into the night, swerving and crisscrossing its way across the savanna.
