African Wildcat

A sea of grass sways gently in the night breeze, sleepily unaware of a commotion in its midst. Ruffled blades bend in the moonlight to betray two shimmering eyes: an African wildcat. The tom, appearing alert but cautious, circles to one side. He's got his eye on a shape in the grasses. He pauses, then sits to reflect. A low hiss escapes from the dark as he contemplates his next move. With a decisive flick of his whiskers, he's up again. Tail and ears aloft, he carefully advances — only to evoke a disgruntled yowl. A wildcat queen, ears flattened, rises quickly and steals away into the infinite ocean of grass. The love-struck tomcat lingers for an instant, then eagerly follows.
