The Asiatic lion is one of the rarest big cats on the planet. Once common throughout West Asia, where it ranged from northern Greece to central India, this regal cat was nearly wiped out by the beginning of the 20th century. In 1907, less than 100 remained. But thanks to the actions of a benevolent viceroy, the Asiatic lion was saved and has been making a steady comeback ever since.

Today, its home in the Gir Forest of northwest India is becoming increasingly overpopulated and the threat to its habitat critical. Several solutions have been sought to resolve this conflict, but the future of this elusive animal remains poised on the edge.

Last Lions of India is a beautiful natural history film that mixes extraordinary characters with human drama as man and animal compete for space to live. Can the lions survive as they start to range outside the Gir Forest, or will human intolerance once again push them to the brink of extinction? Tune in to find out.
