A Real Survivor
"They look incredibly old, gnarled and wrinkly because of the sun and they are covered in mud. They look very different from the Kenyan elephants that are plump and smoother," notes Houdret. "I was also struck by the fact that they were surviving by eating pretty much nothing. They also have a big problem with thorns in their feet. I've seen elephants die because of them."
