In the Lost Elephants of Timbuktu, researcher Anne Orlando journeys to the arid desertscapes of Mali to track a mysterious herd of elephants known as the elephants of Gourma. She was the first to fit the elephants with collars to collect valuable data on their movements. These elephants have shared a centuries-old kinship with the desert-dwelling Touareg peoples, co-existing in a desperate search for water in the unforgiving Sahel Desert. Using advanced GPS (Global Satellite Systems) tracking, Orlando will be able to reveal the elephants' migration pattern and incredible survival tactics in one of the hottest, most desolate places on earth.

View photos from the amazing journey taken by Anders Lindgren of the Swedish GPS manufacturing company Televit, who was along for the ride, and read the field notes of Lost Elephants field producer, Jacky Houdret.
