In her episode, Stella, a Pointer-Greyhound-Staffordshire Terrier mix, chose Arsineh, Craig and their dog Charlie as her perfect family. All was well until a trip to the dog park, where park goers mislabeled her a vicious pit bull. While nothing could be farther from the truth about Stella's breeding or personality, the stereotype stuck and her new family decided not to take the chance. The reality is, not all pet adoptions are a match made in pooch heaven. So, a member of the Who Gets the Dog? crew, with his own animal menagerie, chose Stella instead. Read her happily-ever-after story, as told by her new owner, Ted.
The First Day
Stella was wonderful and happy. She interacted with all the other animals right away better than expected. She has a very tolerant temperament, though she's a little on the hyper side, being that she is still a young dog and easily excited — and happy to have a home!
Home Fit for a Pooch
We bought chew toys for her and she has plenty of toys to share with her three new canine siblings. She has her own doghouse, and we bought her a new collar, leash and food bowl.
Alpha or Beta?
I am definitely the leader of the pack. To let a dog be a leader, or an alpha, is a disaster waiting to happen with other dogs in the household. She fits in just fine and is happy to have other four-legged companions.
Favorite Pooch Pastime
She's about 40 pounds now and loves to be snuggled and to take trips in the car. She loves walking on a leash and interacting with people and other dogs.
Made for Each Other
Stella is very sweet and loving and mild mannered. She is very attentive and willing to learn. She is a gentle dog; she expressed some timidity in the first week that has definitely subsided. She seems so happy just to have a loving home.
Getting to Know You
I'm getting used to the fact that Stella licks our faces too much. Also, she's adjusting to not being allowed to eat the other dogs' dinners.
I was a bit nervous about introducing her to the other animals in my menagerie, since I train animals for TV and films, etc. I was really worried about her showing aggression toward some of the exotic animals, other than dogs and cats. But that has not been a problem since she is really amused by talking birds (such as macaws and cockatoos). She is intrigued also with turtles and tortoises. However, she shies away from snakes and monitors.
Paws and Sit
Stella has learned to sit and is learning not to lick our faces so much. She is learning how to shake, lay down, to jump up on a table to be brushed or washed, and not to shy away from bath time. Since the day I found her for the show, I've known that she was a master of winning peoples' hearts, and it just seems to go on and on. I'd also like to teach her to pick winning Lotto numbers!
Funniest Feat
Stella positions herself sideways and jumps straight up into the air for me to catch her to put her in the car or on a table.
No One's Perfect
Her only quirk is the more she is around someone, the more she wants to lick them.
Changes
She will remain with me for the rest of her life. Look for Stella in upcoming films, TV shows, music videos, etc!
Filming this episode got a little tricky because, well, introducing two dogs can be tricky, too. The truth is, Stella didn't get along so well with one of the contestants on the show, specifically Abigail, a Jack Russell Terrier and canine companion of David and Evan. It seems Abigail didn't take kindly to Stella's visit and a few nips and growls were exchanged. While another meeting was arranged, the two just didn't get along. The producers of Who Gets the Dog? decided not to force the issue, and if you face the same problem at home, you shouldn't either.
