Who Gets the Dog?
Meet the Cast

Dorothea Coelho

Dorothea Coelho (Host)
Performer/writer Dorothea Coelho grew up in Palo Alto, Calif. and Boston. She began performing at the age of eight in Oliver Twist and quickly moved on to soccer, which she felt was much cooler at recess. Throughout high school, she juggled theater and sports. After attending Emerson College in Boston, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue comedy and acting.

Dorothea's stand-up comedy perfomances have included The Toyota Comedy Festival in New York and the Iceland Comedy Festival, The Improv at Harrah's in Las Vegas and local Los Angeles clubs such as The Improv, The Comedy Store, The Ice House and The Largo Show. As well as performing, she produced the comedy show Velveeta Underground featured at The HBO Workspace and LunaPark.

Dorothea has hosted several shows including Players, the celebrity show on the all video game network G-4, and VH1's Every Night. Her latest show, Animal Planet's Who Gets The Dog is the perfect combination of skill set for Dorothea. She has rescued her own dog, Brody, a Border Collie/Swiss Mountain Dog mix, and assisted in many other dog rescues, finding homes and new loving owners. The show affords her the opportunity to help save dogs and bring people together with their new pets.

Merrill Markoe
  Merrill Markoe (Author/Judge)
As the Emmy award-winning head writer for Late Night with David Letterman, Merrill Markoe created "Stupid Pet Tricks". But before her life as a humorist, Markoe worked as an assistant professor of Art at the University of Southern California where, while teaching Freshman Life Drawing, she tried as hard as she could to talk sorority girls in to taking time out of their busy tanning schedules to attempt a couple of charcoal sketches of nude models. When this turned out to be futile, Merrill herself began auditing all kinds of classes at the USC Film School, just to insure that, under her watch, someone was learning something. A year later she abandoned her art-teaching career and, much to the surprise of everyone she knew, began writing for television. She would go on to write for Newhart, Moonlighting and Sex in the City. Besides television writing she can count among her many accomplishments: on-air reporter, radio show host, guest-starring actress, and author. Markoe has penned six books including "What the Dogs Have Taught Me (and other amazing things I've learned)" and "The Day My Dogs Turned into Guys."
Tamar Geller

Tamar Gellar (Animal Behaviorist/Judge)
Tamar's fascination with canine behavior started as a child. When she finished her service as an Israeli Intelligence Officer, she had the opportunity to turn her fascination into observation.

Tamar watched wolves in the wild, marveling at the loving manner by which these wild canines train their young. After studying them with great interest, Tamar theorized that by understanding the language of pack animals, she would be able to unlock the secrets of canine training and behavior modification.

She quickly realized that if the secrets of wolves training their young were applied to dogs, people would then have no reason to use prong collars, choke chains, or abusive language. Observation of the wolves transformed to diligent study, fueled by her discovery and love for animals.

Years later, Tamar had founded Southern California's first totally cage-free boarding and daycare center, aptly called "The Loved Dog Company." Tamar's ability to apply loving guidance, not unlike what she observed in wolf packs, proved successful in both individual and group relationships. As Tamar perfected her technique, her non-violent style attracted the attention of the public and media outlets such as Good Morning America, CNN and USA Today.

Dr. Dean Graulich
  Dr. Dean Graulich (Veterinarian/Judge)
