Profession: Underwater Cameraman, Marine Biologist
Episode: "Sperm Whale, Hippopotamus and Copper Sharks"
Encounter: Simon gets caught in a feeding frenzy.
Simon, a marine zoologist by training, was a leading figure in several coral reef surveys around East Malaysia until joining the preeminent underwater filming company ScubaZoo Images in early 1998. Since then he has filmed extensively on numerous major broadcast television, scientific and environmental projects. These have taken him around the world many times over, from the cold waters of the subarctic to the gloriously warm coral seas.
Whilst filming, over the years, Simon has faced many unique and incredible situations. Whether it is voracious Humboldt squid, wild saltwater crocodiles, highly territorial bull sea lions, South Africa's incredible "sardine run," great white sharks, giant octopus, wild dugongs and manatees, deepwater wrecks or the world's remotest sea mounts, you can bet your bottom dollar Simon will be in the thick of it, camera in hand.
To this day, Simon's dream is to retrace his ancestors' discovery of Enderby Land in Antarctica and compare their lives as old-school whalers to his life as a modern-day marine biologist/underwater cameraman. For Simon, the beauty and marine wildlife of Antarctica holds no bounds.
