I'm Rachel Reenstra, a.k.a.
Ms. Adventure, and since this isn't your typical show, this isn't your typical introduction. Come to think of it, I'm not your typical Animal Planet host. Before you get the wrong impression, let me set a couple of things straight.
First, I'm no expert. I'm not going to know the Latin name for anything, and that's a bone fide de facto ad infinitum. Second, I'm no daredevil. Driving in L.A. is the scariest thing I've ever done before I took this gig. Third, while I do love animals, I love the pointy/scary/stinky ones from a distance.
I got this job because, as a comedian, I always make it a point to observe human behavior. I also have my master's in spiritual psychology, and have worked as a life coach/relationship counselor. Animal Planet might have also hired me because I said I would happily rappel backward into a bat-filled cave. So I stretched the truth a bit on my job application ... who hasn't?! And like every 30-something woman I know, I'm a veteran of the relationship jungle with friends, family and a couple of ex-boyfriends in tow. They're all pleased as punch that I'm doing this show. My friends are pleased to know someone on TV; my family's just thrilled I'm employed; and my exes will be watching to see if I fall on my face, both literally and figuratively.
OK, the point of this whole introduction was to give you the following information and I almost forgot.
Ms. Adventure (that's me!) premieres Friday, Jan. 19, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, and follows a city girl on a quest to get insight into human relationships by learning about relationships in the animal world. At 10 p.m., I'll be calling everyone I know to ask how they liked it. What's your number?
Sincerely,
