Samuel Hung has devoted his life to studying and helping the endangered Chinese white dolphins. Currently, approximately 200 of these incredible animals remain in the waters around Hong Kong. Samuel knows each dolphin by sight, and tirelessly campaigns and educates on their behalf. He has been studying the Chinese white dolphins and finless porpoises in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan since 1998, and is currently serving as the research director of the Hong Kong Cetacean Research Project.

In December 2003, Samuel founded the only non-governmental organization in Hong Kong — the Hong Kong Dolphin Conservation Society. It focuses on the plight of cetaceans in Hong Kong and around the world. In fact, it is the first society dedicated to the conservation of whales, dolphins and porpoises of Hong Kong.

Samuel has been giving talks about dolphins and leading dolphin watching tours for six years, which has significantly raised awareness about these endangered animals.

Currently, he is a PhD Candidate at the University of Hong Kong, undertaking a research project to determine the critical habitats of dolphins in Hong Kong.
