Episode: Battle Scars
Emergency Vet: Dr. Corey Wall
Animal: Bailey
Bailey the Akita is looking for a chance to redeem himself. He just picked a fight with another dog and lost. Now his bleeding mouth has earned him a trip to Alameda East. But Dr. Corey Wall senses that the evening's fight card is still open and Bailey concurs. He snaps at, but barely misses, Dr. Wall's hand. In order to take a look at the dog's wounds, incapacitating Bailey is required.
A shot of morphine will calm Bailey, but getting him to accept the injection isn't easy. Dr. Wall finds himself on the floor, eventually wrestling his patient into submission. "Hey, those martial arts classes came in handy!"
Drugs finally deliver the knockout punch, and Dr. Wall can assume the role of caregiver. He finds several wounds in the dog's mouth. Since neither patient nor doctor want to go through this again, treatment includes the use of absorbable sutures. Without the threat of a return visit, Bailey's mouth will heal and Dr. Wall will be able to relax; "I haven't had that much adrenaline going through my body in a long time."
