A Headache That Won't Quit

Episode: Frankenkitty
Emergency Vet: Dr. Robert Taylor
Animal: Willy

Willy learned at an early age that a dog's bark is not necessarily worse than his bite. Two years after suffering a dog bite puncture wound to the head, this cat still suffers from a chronic sinus infection. With pus now draining from her pet's forehead, owner Stephanie Simpson seeks a solution at Alameda East Veterinary Hospital. "There were a couple of times in the middle of the night, he was in so much pain, he was just trembling. His whole body was just trembling."

Since Dr. Robert Taylor also suffers from headaches, Willy has a kindred spirit for a caretaker. "He probably at one point had a teaspoon of pus up in his head. It's very, very painful," Dr. Taylor says.

To fix the infections now eating though Willy's sinus cavities, the surgeon must saw two trap doors in the cat's forehead just in front of the brain. Once inside the frontal sinus, Dr. Taylor will scrape the cavity clean, and then fill up the space with harvested fat from the cat's leg.

After such a drastic step, this mixed breed looks a bit worse for the wear. But six weeks later his good looks are back. Willy can stop being sullen, and resume being silly.
