Generally referred to as "Big Richard" because he is the longer serving of the two Richards working at Australia Zoo, Richard Jackson started work as a volunteer before becoming an animal keeper in November 1997.
Richard has worked in all the various animal departments over the past six years, the last three as head reptile keeper. Big Richard's extensive knowledge of all aspects of the zoo has been rewarded with his recent promotion to assistant curator, working alongside Kelsey. Richard now assists in the huge task of coordinating all of the various animal departments within the Australia Zoo.
Richard has published many papers and articles on reptiles in herpetology journals and spends a lot of time in the field studying reptiles in their natural environment.
