Amanda Brown is the head native mammal keeper. Born in 1976, Amanda has lived all her life on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. Amanda worked as a dental nurse for eight years before deciding, literally overnight, that she had to follow her passion and work with animals. Amanda began her Australia Zoo career in 2002 as a volunteer and couldn't believe she had the opportunity to work with animals every single day.
Promoted after only six months on the job, Amanda oversees 10 different native mammal species, coordinates the mammal keepers, reports to the curator, and checks every animal and their enclosure, all while studying for a degree in wildlife biology at university. Amanda loves the beach, sailing, wind surfing and basically all water sports. Her favorite animals are wombats and Tasmanian devils. Amanda hopes to one day work with the highly endangered Northern hairy-nosed wombat. Amanda has a very active beagle/border collie cross as a pet.
