Ants

Ants are often thought of as a real nuisance. These creatures gather their food in your garden or even your house — it all depends on what type of food they feed on and what you provide them with. Some species feed on protein debris, thereby cleaning the earth of miscellaneous dead insects and other animals, so these bodies don't lay around for years and years. Of course, spilled bits of cat and dog food are just as much part of their diet.

Other ants have a sweet tooth and go for nectar, honeydew and overripe fruit. They clean that up everywhere. If you spill some jam or honey in the kitchen, these ants will show no hesitation doing what they've been doing for millions of years: march in and get rid of it. Just leave a jar of sugar open and you’ll know exactly what I mean.
