Bugs: Pesky Pests or Unsung Heroes?

Bugs are not only poorly understood by scientists (we've identified about 1 million insect species, while some 20 million species could conceivably live on our planet), but also by the public at large.
Of all the bugs we regularly encounter around the home and garden the vast majority are beneficial; very few can be considered a real pest, and even those have a very distinct and useful job description.
