Squirrel-Proof Bird Feeder

Episode: Salamanders and Squirrels

Purpose: To create a bird feeder that will keep the squirrels away.

Materials: Rope, 2-inch-diameter pieces of PVC pipe about 8 feet in length, handsaw and a bird feeder.

Instructions:

1) Using the handsaw, cut the PVC pipe into 1-foot-long pieces; you should have 8 pieces of pipe when finished.

2) Tie one end of the rope to a pole or tree about 6 feet off the ground.

3) String on 4 pieces of the PVC pipe, then hang the bird feeder and string the remaining 4 pieces of PVC on the rope.

4) Finally, tie the lose end to another tree or pole. The individual pieces of pipe should spin freely, thus preventing squirrels from reaching the bird feeder.
