Bottle Bird Feeder

Episode: Possums and Raccoons

Purpose: To create a decorative watering hole for woodpeckers.

Materials: Scissors, twine, empty plastic bottle (16-24 ounces), glue, pencil, lid from small mustard jar.

Instructions:

1) Start by poking several small drainage holes in the bottom of the bottle.

2) Next, in the center of the bottle trace an outline of the mustard lid.

3) Now take the scissors and cut out the feeding hole.

4) About ½ inch below the feeding hole make a small incision and another incision on the opposite side.

5) Push the pencil through the small incisions, leaving about 1 inch for the birds to perch on while feeding.

6) Now apply the glue, starting from the top of the feeding hole to the top of the bottle.

7) Wrap the twine around the bottle.

8) Fill the feeder with seed, stopping when the seed begins to spill out of the feeding hole.

9) Hang the feeder in a tree at least 5 feet above the ground.
