Backyard Habitat
Meet the Hosts

David Mizejewski
Host, Backyard Habitat

David Mizejewski has been fascinated with wild creatures for as long as he can remember. He spent his youth romping in suburban woods, fields and marshes, observing and learning about the surprising diversity of wildlife that inhabit those areas. As a high school student studying ecology, Mizejewski began to see firsthand the clear connection between native plant communities and wildlife populations, and his passion for wildlife-friendly gardening was born.

In addition to hosting Animal Planet's BACKYARD HABITAT, Mizejewski manages the National Wildlife Federation's Backyard Wildlife Habitat™ program, which for more than 30 years has inspired people to make a home for wildlife right outside their back door. David is the author of the award-winning book Attracting Birds, Butterflies and Other Backyard Wildlife, published in 2004 by Creative Homeowner. Previously, Mizejewski worked as a naturalist at the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Georgia and Long Branch Nature Center in Virginia, and directed an urban forestry grant program for the National Tree Trust in Washington, D.C.

Mizejewski has made numerous radio and television appearances, including NBC's Weekend Today Show, HGTV's Gardening by the Yard and Martha Stewart. Mizejewski holds a degree in human and natural ecology from Emory University. Originally from New Jersey, he now lives in Arlington, Va

Molly Pesce
Host, Backyard Habitat

Molly Pesce grew up in Florida in a family devoted to the outdoors and animals. Her pets included two horses, four dogs, a family of rabbits, birds, hamsters, fish, turtles and a snake. The family spent much of their free time on the water, where Pesce honed her skills as a fly fisher and scuba diver.

After winning the Miss Florida Pageant, Pesce gave up the open spaces of Florida for the Big Apple, where she appeared in many Broadway productions. She portrayed Goldie in The Flowering Peach, Ella in Annie Warbucks and, most recently, Molly in the musical Jekyll and Hyde. She has appeared in more than a hundred television commercials and sung on numerous cast albums.

On television, Pesce hosted Nickelodeon's variety series Total Panic and the Comedy Central series Short Attention Span Theater. She also covered movies for Inside Scoop and Comedy Central's The Daily Show. Pesce hosted New York Now (the insider's guide to NYC), and served as correspondent on syndicated specials like the Celebrity Sports Invitational and The Sports Magazine Award Show. Most recently, Pesce co-hosted a pilot for eBay TV with Ahmad Rashad.

Pesce and her husband Michael live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with their daughter, Charlotte, and their cat, Kit. Molly is a New Yorker through and through, but she's thrilled to get back to the outdoors as co-host of Animal Planet's BACKYARD HABITAT.
